US indie rockers Cloud Nothings yesterday announced their forthcoming album, Last Building Burning. It’s set for release on October 19th via Carpark Records an can be pre-ordered here.
With eight tracks, the new album will be their fifth full-length release. In a press statement, the group described the record as ‘a culmination of the development of frontman Dylan Baldi’s ever-changing sound’ and ‘an extension of the band’s live performances’. With production handled by Randall Dunn, Last Building Burning will ‘[capture] the frenetic energy that’s characteristic of their shows and [infuse] the jagged unpredictability of [their] guitars’.
“I’m obsessed with the idea of energy at the moment,” their frontman said. “That’s how I thought of this record: seven short, and one long, bursts of intense, controlled chaos. I wanted to make that come across in a way that can actually be felt.”
See the tracklist below:
1. On An Edge
2. Leave Him Now
3. In Shame
4. Offer An End
5. The Echo Of The World
6. Dissolution
7. So Right So Clean
8. Another Way Of Life
Ahead of the October release, the group yesterday released ‘The Echo Of The World’ as a lead single. See the track below:
‘Echo Of The World’ certainly lives up to the band’s press. A no-holds barred exercise in hard rock, the track is powered by a marching drive of fill-heavy drumming, overdriven guitars and jagged, barked vocals. By the end, the song almost borders on hardcore-punk, with cascading cymbal crashes and Baldi’s screamo-delivery giving the musical equivalent of an exorcism.
Cloud Nothings formed in Cleveland back in 2009. Last Building Burning is the group’s first release since last year’s well-received Life Without Sound LP, whose earworm-power pop approach received praise from critics.
