Festival season is back in full force, and things are kicking off this Sunday on the 29th May, at one of London’s freshest festivals – City Splash. The all-day, family-friendly festival is taking place in South London, Brixton at Brockwell Park. City Splash is the UK’s largest Reggae, Dancehall and Afrobeats festival, and will be celebrating the influence of reggae music, Caribbean food and high-vibe culture. There will be over 60 artists performing, 6 stages, 40 food traders and 15,000 people attending. Reggae music has had a massive influence on British culture and multiple music genres knocking about today, including the likes of jungle, dubstep and garage. Although many of these sounds (jungle for one) never came directly from Jamaica, they were still brought alive via the Jamaican heritage bloodline that influenced artists here in the UK.
There is a confirmed huge line up, with bands, artists, sound systems, DJ’s, as well as panels, live discussions and wellbeing workshops. Some of the big headline names include: Nigerian afropop singer and songwriter, Mr Eazi. Reggae-dancehall legend, Barrington Levy – who’s career has persisted over four decades. Contemporary reggae singer, Protoje, whom has an expansive discography fusing reggae and hip hop across 6 studio albums. Internationally recognised Jamaican reggae and dancehall singer, Kranium, who has collaborated with multiple big names including, Tory Lanez, Ty Dolla $ign, and Wiz Kid. Grammy-nominated afropop, dancehall, and reggae virtuoso Stonebwoy. The infamous roots-reggae singer Luciano and last but not least, the iconic and incredibly influential Sister Nancy – she will definitely be one not to miss.
The official stage partners are Bossy LDN, Channel One Sound System, Rampage Sound and Recess with Black Eats LDN coming through with London’s best African and Caribbean street food and drink vendors. The festival is also proud to be partnered with Black Minds Matter.
