Circa Waves announced today details of their intimate tour across the UK, this November. The tour will see the band play a host of smaller venues across the UK as part of a series of “underplay” shows, which will also see the indie rock band road test new material, from their forthcoming album. The band will kick of their tour in Stockton On Tees, on the 15th of November 2018, and are scheduled to conclude, the intimate, tour in Norwich, on the 1st of December 2018. Tickets for the gigs go on sale on Friday the 12th of October 2018.
The tour will see the band return to Dunfermline, whilst also performing for the first time in Kilmarnock, Stockton-on-Tees, Milton Keynes, Guilford, Tunbridge Well, Plymouth, Norwich and St Albans. Speaking about the shows, frontman Kieran Shudall said: “We love to play big shows, but the small sweaty raucous club shows is where Circa Waves started and formed everything we are. We want to get back in the pit with you, get sweaty, drink some beer and meet all the people who make us Circa Waves. We want to go to the cities who always miss out. The people who always have to travel for gigs. Fuck it, we’re coming to you!”
The indie rock band, who formed in Liverpool in 2013, consists of frontman Kieran Shudall – on vocals and guitar, Sam Rourke – on bass, Colin Jones – on drums, and Joe Falconer – on guitar. On the 2nd of December 2013, the band released their debut single ‘Get Away/Good For Me’, and on 10th of June 2014 the band released their ‘Young Chasers’ EP through Virgin Records in the USA. During 2014, the band also supported The 1975 on tour around the UK, as well as supporting The Libertines, in September the same year.
It wasn’t until the 30th of March that the band released their debut album ‘Young Chasers’, 2015 also saw the band perform at a number of festivals, including Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and Boardmasters. In October 2015, the band toured the UK, in their first headline tour, including a sold out date at O2 Academy Brixton. Circa Waves announced their second album ‘Different Creatures’ on the 24th of November 2016, releasing the first single from the album “Wake Up” the same day.
The Liverpool-based, four-piece have been speaking about how their third studio album, due to be released soon, is a different style from their previous albums ‘Young Chasers’ and ‘Different Creatures’. Speaking about the forthcoming album, Shudall, said: “There are three or four songs on the next record where you’ll be able to say ‘Oh yeah, that’s Circa Waves.’ But the rest are totally different to anything we’ve done. There are a lot of different styles on there, but I think overall the unifying aspect of the sound is that it’s epic and cinematic.”
Speaking to NME, Shudall singled out one song as being a key part of the album, describing it as a “big piano ballad”. He continued: “Our fans are going to be appalled at a lot of what we’re doing on this record.” Falconer added: “There are songs that, previously, we wouldn’t have followed on through. This time we’ve seen where they can go and explored what we’re capable of.”
