Charli XCX released a song named ‘Unlock It’ back in 2017, featuring rapper Jay Park and pop star Kim Petras but the single recently came under the spotlight when DJ Jeff Prior’s mashup of it with Tinashe’s 2016 track ‘Superlove’ became a viral TikTok sound and a dance challenge. With TikTok stars such as Addison Rae and Charli D’Amelio taking part in the “Unlock It Challenge”, it is no surprise that ‘Unlock It’ is being streamed again by many fans across the world more than ever – now there is a new visualizer accompanying the song.
The visualizer features Charli XCX on the stage performing by herself, occasionally cutting into snippets of her TikToks and blurry 80s style visuals. The video was edited by Terry O’Connor and footage was shot from her Bandsintown performance.
‘Unlock It’ is the eighth track of her fourth mixtape named ‘Pop 2′, which was released in December 2017. The mixtape features a variety of collaborations with a wide range of artists including Cupcakke, Carly Rae Jepson and MØ.
The 28-year-old pop sensation has continued to catch the attention of the public eye over the past year or so, from the release of her lockdown album “how i’m feeling now” to its accompanying documentary. More recently, she has confirmed in February this year that she is forming a supergroup with The 1975 and No Rome, and announced that she has a new collaboration coming with Tove Lo.
In the light of Charli’s old discography going viral, a fan asked her on Twitter what older song of hers she believes deserves her recognition, to which she replied: “honestly if Vroom Vroom blew up on a global scale that would be insane because that song means so much to me and to the angels. It truly is an artistic masterpiece. I’m not even saying that for dramatic effect: it’s just fact.”
