The 11th annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards, an American award show which recognises music supervisors in 14 categories including movies, television, documentaries, games and trailers, took place yesterday on the 11th virtually. British singer Celeste won the award for Best Song Written and/or Recorded for a Film with the single ‘Hear My Voice’ from 2020 film ‘The Trial of The Chicago 7′. The award was given to co-writers Celeste Waite and Daniel Pemberton and the film’s music supervisors Peter Afterman and Alison Litton.
Other songs nominated for this category included ‘Turntables’ from ‘All In: The Fight for Democracy’, ‘Love Myself’ from ‘The High Note’, ‘Make It Work’ from ‘Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey’ and ‘Carried Me with You’ from ‘Onward’. Celeste’s ‘Hear My Voice’ is the only song to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song out of all of these. She performed the song live to close the 2021 Guild of Music Supervisors Awards.

On Instagram, she gave fans more insight behind the song: “‘Hear My Voice’ was a song written in the spirit of protest, written with the intention to in-still hope and belief into those who feel they aren’t heard, to know that one day they will be and now we have this wonderful opportunity, thank you to everyone involved and especially to Daniel for persisting to get me to sing and write this song .. we actually wrote this remotely last April in lockdown.”
Celeste has had a massively successful career in the music industry, especially with the release of her debut album ‘Not Your Muse’ earlier this year when it topped the UK Albums Chart and got nominated for Album of the Year, Best Female Solo Artist and Best New Artist at the 2021 Brit Awards. The singer will also perform on the Jimmy Fallon show on 13th April.
The nominations for 93rd Academy Awards were announced on 15th March and the award show is due to take place on 26th April at 1am BST, where we can expect the presence of many UK artists.
