DJ-production duo CamelPhat have released a new track in collaboration with popular English rock band Foals today via RCA Records. Entitled ‘Hypercolour’, the single was written by the duo along with Foals’ Yannis Philippakis (lead vocalist, lead guitarist) and performed by the band.
With a more electronic sound than Foals are used to playing, ‘Hypercolour’ is a summer song with a dark and mysterious influence from the bands’ rock background. Contrastingly, the lyrics are pure and positive as ever, with the repeated line: “Endless, open wide road running through the sky/Hypercolour blue and the summer in your mind.”
The single debuted as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record, gaining 12,000 views on YouTube in under 24 hours. Introducing the record, Mac said, “It’s a real big one today – CamelPhat collaborating with Yannis from Foals on a track called ‘Hypercolour’. She then spoke briefly to the artists, who gave some insight into the track, explaining that they wanted it to be released today, on Glastonbury weekend, as CamelPhat were supposed to play tomorrow (Saturday 27th).
CamelPhat promoted the song prior to its release, documenting a small part of the editing process after recording. Speaking with Forbes, the pair expressed their excitement for the release, saying, “We’ve been longtime fans of Foals after seeing them live a number of times over the years, and they have always been on our list to collaborate with. Thankfully, the feeling was mutual.”
Sadly, both bands have had tour dates cancelled due to the coronavirus, with Foals rescheduling their UK and European tour. On the bright side, this has allowed them to work on new music and look forward to the day they can perform live again.
CamelPhat have been incredibly active this year, sharing numerous singles to a warm reception from fans. Made up of members Dave Whelan and Mike Di Scala, the duo was formed in 2004 in Liverpool and has seen a number of singles released since, with 2017’s ‘Cola‘ reaching over 100 million streams.
Foals have released five studio albums in total, with various changes to members. Currently, the formation includes Yannis Philippakis (lead vocals, lead guitar), Jimmy Smith (guitar), Edwin Congreave (bass, keyboards), and Jack Bevan (drums).
