In recent times Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris has taken it upon himself to go back to his roots. He has swerved from his more pop based music to going back to making music as he used to when he started. This new song called “Live Without Your Love” also features Steve Lacy from American RnB/funk band The Internet.
Calvin Harris had made the transition from producing electronic dance music to appealing to widespread pop audiences becoming one of the biggest acts in the world. Now though, in an effort to remember where his career started, he has transitioned back to making that dance music. This has so far resulted in four EP’s and this one single. What the long term plan of this side project is unknown as of yet.
“I can’t… Live without your love.”

Over his career Calvin Harris has seen himself develop into one of the highest paid artists in the world, also topping Forbes highest paid DJ for six consecutive years. He has also seen the music he releases garner widespread critical acclaim as well. His work so far has got the stage where you hear it everywhere; clubs, radio, bars, the lot.
He has also been one to try a bit of everything. Over his career he has tried to push the boat out with the style of his music at times. For example, on his last full length album he incorporated elements of funk into it, having previously used elements of dance hall, rap and disco.
Given that he has now gone back to his roots, it will be interesting what direction he will choose to go in next. Given that the Love Regenerator style does not have much crossover potential will we see him transition back or continue down the same track.
But I’m sure that whatever he does will turn out well as it usually does for the Scottish producer. Calvin Harris, real name Adam Wiles, has proven that he has done enough and has the artistic dexterity to turn his hand to most things and it turns out well (usually). But like him or not, he is known around the world and has made enough music to already have a legacy to leave on the industry.
