The Chicago experimental rockers have announced that they will be touring the UK and the rest of Europe this coming winter in support of recent album Stitches.
Following the arrival of Stitches in early September, the group, led by the ever colourful Tim Rutili, have wasted no time in preparing to take Europe by storm, with performances set to take place in countries including Czech Republic, Italy, France and many more. It will be the first time Europeans get to experience Stitches, with a vast collection of electronic bleeps and that classic Americana sound that has been an ever present in Califone’s musical history.
The ensemble rockers also showed further use of their creative side by using the blogging site Tumblr to premiere the video for the first single from the album, the title track Stitches. The video is ever changing, and works using static imagery and animated GIFs drawn by a curated subset of blogs within the Tumblr system. Could this be the future of music videos? An innovative and creative way of keeping fans coming back for more, by never seeing the same video twice? Only time will tell, but for the time being, it’s pretty bloody clever. To watch the video, visit the band’s Tumblr page (http://califonestitches.tumblr.com/) and click on ‘show me your stitches’ in the bottom left corner.
A track from Stitches was recently made available for your listening pleasure as well, with Frosted Tips getting aired on YouTube courteously of the group’s record label, Dead Oceans. The song starts off with rain pounding down on a metal surface, before kicking into action with a variety of differing sounds, including horns and a fuzz bass. You can check it out below.
