It has been confirmed that British rock band Bring Me The Horizon will be receiving NME’s Innovation Award at NME’s award ceremony next month at the O2 Academy in Brixton. This comes several weeks after the announcement of a world tour following the release of Bring Me The Horizon’s latest album That’s The Spirit in September last year. New dates were recently added to the tour due to high demand in London, Bournemouth, Santiago and Buenos Aires.
Editor of NME Mike Williams commented on the decision to present Bring Me The Horizon with the award, saying:
“Awarding Bring Me The Horizon with this year’s Innovation Award was a complete no brainer for NME. Their live shows are absolutely mind blowing and as a band they have an incredible amount of creative energy.”
That’s The Spirit was certified gold in the UK in December 2015 following the record selling/streaming over 100,000 copies, a feat also achieved by Bring Me The Horizon’s previous album Sempiternal, certified gold in June 2015.
Bring Me The Horizon will be joining Coldplay in performing at the awards ceremony, who were recently announced as winners of the NME Godlike Genius Award. The band’s frontman Oli Sykes told NME,
“We are extremely excited to be invited to play at the awards, this year is full of new experiences and us playing outside of our comfort zones, this is no exception and we couldn’t be more up for it.”
