UK metalcore heroes Bring Me the Horizon dropped their new single “LosT” last week, promising fans that further new material is imminent.
Bring Me the Horizon have undergone, some may say, a radical change in sound over their last few releases, ranging from proggy experimental metal to emo saturated punk to straight up pop. The new single “LosT”, dropped last Thursday, left fans none too surprised at the direction the band has taken but perhaps a bit hungry for the more feral, aggressive side that marked BMTH as one of the most exciting bands in metalcore.
After the release of highly influential album Sempiternal and with the inclusion of keyboardist Jordan Fish, the band embraced a more melodic, pop-infused sound that won them scores of new fans but perhaps alienated portions of their original fan base. Whether you are in the camp that embraces the changes or pines for the glory years, Fish has recently hinted that the band can still summon the heavy and fully intend to do so on a future release.
After releasing three Post Human records to date, Fish, speaking to Kerrang magazine said, “we’re working on four Post Human records and we’ve been working on them all at the same time…the fourth one is where we want to explore the more heavy stuff.”
This will come as welcome news to the army of metalcore listeners the band has spent most of their career gathering. It would appear that Bring Me the Horizon has no intention of abandoning their heavier sound in the future and a return to the grittier stuff will undoubtedly set long term fans’ hearts pounding in anticipation.
For frontman Oli Sykes however, the new single is everything he wants a new Bring Me the Horizon project to sound like saying, “I think ‘LosT’ encapsulates exactly how I imagine this next album or EP, or whatever you want to call it, is going to sound like.” With Sykes all but confirming that any new music will have the same sonic direction and flavour as “LosT”, excitement will build to see where the band will go next and, for long time listeners, an eventual return to the more heavy stuff promises to further cement Bring Me the Horizon’s status as one of the hottest rock acts around.
To further tease what the band have been up to lately, Bring Me the Horizon have released a docu-series on YouTube titled BMTHS5: Post Human EU, consisting of nine episodes where they have chronicled their most recent European tour.
Bring Me the Horizon will also be heading out on a North American tour with Fall Out Boy this summer as well as a headlining slot at this year’s Download Festival.
