They may have just lost their squeaky clean image and it seems as though One Direction may have even lost a certain sector of their fans after a potentially incriminating video featuring group members Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson went viral earlier this week.
With 40% of the band currently dealing with a media frenzy after a video surfaced on line featuring Malik smoking what is claimed to be ‘a joint’ whilst Tomlinson possibly uses a racial slur, tickets for the group’s upcoming shows have become significantly more available through ticket resale site Viagogo. A Viagogo spokesperson has said: “The boys are considered role models, but the question is whether this latest controversy will affect the boyband’s squeaky clean image, as fans – and their parents alike – turn to reselling their tickets.”
It is widely considered that this response is particularly due to the parents of One Direction fans (or Directioners as they prefer to be known) taking a stance against the group as a direct response to this video. Fellow member Harry Styles has since proclaimed that he is furious with his fellow singers because of their ‘stupid and reckless’ behaviour.
Though this incident is likely not to topple the band, given their worldwide popularity, it has indeed shocked many and it remains to be seen if Malik and Tomlinson are hit with any punishments as a direct result.
