Following last month’s revelation that a new album from Californian pop punk trio blink-182 is in the works, vocalist and bassist Mark Hoppus has shared a 10 second video on his Instagram page of drummer Travis Barker tracking drums in the recording studio for a song that “didn’t exist this morning”.

blink-182’s line up has been in flux for several years, with another recent shuffle among the members seeing guitarist and vocalist Matt Skiba replacing previous guitarist Tom DeLonge after his departure from the band. DeLonge, a founding member of blink-182, had seen their rise to success after their 1999 album Enema Of The State, and announced his resignation in 2015 after a total of 19 years with the band – who split in 2005 after 13 years together, then reformed four years later in 2009.
The upcoming material will be Matt Skiba’s first feature on a blink-182 album, however Skiba is by no means a novice, having recorded eight studio albums as lead vocalist and guitarist for his other band Alkaline Trio. This has given blink-182 fans the opportunity to get a taste of Skiba’s musical style – and to develop a rough idea of what to expect on their new album.
However, fans won’t have to wait long to hear the new material for themselves, with Travis Barker having divulged the band’s plan to have their new album released this year via an Instagram post in December 2015. There is yet to be any official confirmation of how soon we can expect a release, but the promising new footage straight from the studio suggests that the album is well under way.
