Blade Brown is preparing for the release of his highly anticipated Bags & Boxes 4 mixtape. After teasing the project last year with visuals to his ’12 Summers’ single, the Battersea native kept a low profile before releasing the ‘Intro’ for the mixtape last month. Now, he has recruited fellow South London rapper Giggs for his latest single ‘Block’s Hot.’
The two cool, calm and collected gangsta rappers aren’t strangers to one another and this track proves that their chemistry hasn’t faded. They released their first collaborative mixtape back in 2007 entitled Hollowman Meets Blade and haven’t been heard on a track together since the classic ‘Hammer Em Down’ single dropped in 2009.
The hard-hitting, string-led rap instrumental gives that nostalgic feel, reminiscent of their previous link-ups. Giggs kicks the track off with his unique voice and head bumping flow, responding to the negative energy directed at him whilst reminding listeners that his gangsta isn’t to be tested, “Anything lookin’ fishy, you get wrapped with the mop.” Blade Brown speaks on what he knows best and addresses the trap life on the second verse, reiterating that rap is just a hobby and not a way for him to make money “Made half a milli in a year and said rap’s long.”
The gritty visuals are shot outside a mechanic based within an industrial unit as the pair go back-to-back with bars. With a chorus that yells “Murder, man run out and it’s murder” it’s only right for yellow crime scene tape to surround the two rappers, accompanied by smoke grenades for visual aesthetics. A few close up shots of Blade Brown rocking the Beats by Dre over-head headphones in an all-black colourway, it seems like a sponsorship deal or collaboration with the brand could be on its way.
