Icelandic songstress Bjork has revealed a new single today, as the build to her follow-up to 2015’s Vulnicura continues.
The single, titled ‘The Gate’ will be available on September 18, with a vinyl release accompanying it on September 22.
The announcement was confirmed on Bjork’s official Twitter page, accompanied by some typically beautiful artwork.

Clearly, the single is building towards a long-awaited album for Bjork, and despite speaking candidly on the project, no official release date- or even an album title- has been confirmed yet, though the LP is widely thought to be due before the end of the year.
In an interview with Dazed magazine- for whom she was also a cover star- Bjork described the upcoming album as her “Tinder Album,” explaining explaining: “It’s about that search (for utopia) – and about being in love. Spending time with a person you enjoy on every level is obviously utopia, you know? I mean, it’s real. It’s when the dream becomes real.”
Bjork has enlisted several collaborators for the new album-including famed producer Arca- and artist and filmmaker Thomas Huang, who has worked on some of Bjork’s most striking and famous music videos, spoke to The Fader earlier this year to talk about Vulnicura‘s “future-facing” follow-up, and it’s sound, as well as HUagn’s own involvement in future music videos with the singer.
“I think it’s a bit too early for me to say at the moment, but, you know, Björk’s already written quite a bit of it. We just want to evolve what we did in ‘Vulnicura,’ which was so personal and introspective.
“What I can say is this new album’s gonna be really future-facing, in a hopeful way that I think is needed right now. I’m excited. It will probably be utilizing more of my visual effects background as well.”
