The CEO of Global Citizen, Hugh Evans, said in a statement ahead of next year’s festival, “Our goal, to put it simply, is to engage every single person on the planet in this mission to end global poverty. To do so, we must boldly and creatively reach global citizens where they are: in person, on television, on their phones and online.”
The main goal of Global Citizen is to combat worldwide poverty, climate change and reduce inequality by the year 2030, collaborating with CEO advisory Teneo by setting up a year long campaign as part of a new initiative entitled Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
The news of the festival comes soon after Billie Eilish urged fans to “speak up” about the issues the world faces with climate change, posting a boomerang image through her Instagram of her wearing an outfit decorated with the words, “Tick Tock”. The post reads as follows, “TICK TOCK! our time is running out. the climate crisis is very real. we need to speak up and demand that our leaders take action. #climatestrike #fridaysforfuture”.
A recent study from Pollstar, called Tour & Destroy: The Case for Metallica as the World’s Biggest Touring Act, revealed that Metallica have become the “biggest all time touring band”, as they have grossed $1.4 billion in sales of tickets since 1982, putting the ‘Enter Sandman’ group ahead of Guns N’ Roses and AC/DC. The study also revealed that since 1991, they’ve sold $125 million in merchandise throughout North America.
Their present WorldWired Tour has grossed in excess of $430million through the sale of 4.1 million tickets.
Billie Eilish recently featured alongside Woody Harrelson in the first episode of the new 45th season of Saturday Night Live. In the promo footage from the episode, Harrelson gives Billie a guided tour of the SNL set, regarding her as the “new kid”, while holding a skateboard, as Billie carries a notebook while they visit various parts of the set.
