After a quiet 2015, Biffy Clyro have kicked off 2016 by stirring up a notable amount of excitement for forthcoming seventh album Ellipsis, a long awaited follow up to their 2013 number one album Opposites. Today the award winning Scottish triad, perhaps best known for hits such as Mountains and Many Of Horror, premiered the music video for Ellipsis‘ lead single Wolves of Winter via their Facebook page. See it here!
Frontman Simon Neil explained the thought process behind the track to NME, divulging that the title is a reference to David Attenborough –
It comes from a documentary of his about these wolves who live on a patch of land and whoever comes onto it, they’re basically fair game. It’s an attack song. It’s me saying “don’t fuck with what we do” and sticking the fingers up to the people who said our band wouldn’t last very long.
Just several days ago the band unveiled the album artwork for Ellipsis, which was provocatively exhibited as an animation – and unsurprisingly, features the use of ellipsis.

Speaking of the new album to NME, Simon Neil revealed that Ellipsis will sound “fucked up”, however also cites it as the “best record we’ve ever made”. He went on to describe the surprising influence Biffy Clyro have taken from hip hop, saying:
It’ll be leaner and meaner than the last – no orchestras. This album is going to be the opposite of cinematic. If the last records were kind of Ridley Scott, then this one is more John Waters. It’s quite dirty! We’ve taken a lot of influence from recent hip hop records, like the latest A$AP Rocky – they’re so fucking good because they’ve got a really grimy, dirty, horrible sounds with beautiful vocals or vice versa. We’re trying to get that balance of things teetering on the edge of chaos the entire time. It’s going to sound like Biffy, but it’s about “rocking” instead of “rock”.
Biffy Clyro have a huge year ahead of them. The band are due to play a superlative show at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow on August 27th as part of Glasgow Summer Sessions, which will also include performances from Fall Out Boy, Cage The Elephant and Wolf Alice. This show is sandwiched between Biffy’s headline sets lined up at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festival – the trio will headline Leeds on August 26th and Reading on August 28th.
With Ellipsis to be released on July 8th, Biffy Clyro are sure to take the music world by storm this summer – marking a much welcomed return from a band beloved by their fans.
