NYC art rock duo Battles have announced that they will be embarking on a long list of live dates, performing extensively in both North America, as well as Europe and the UK. These forthcoming shows will be in support of the band’s last album Juice B Crypts, which was released in 2019. You can find tickets for their upcoming shows in the US and Europe here.
Battles’ most recent full-length album Juice B Crypts has received warm praise from critics since its release in 2019, with Alternative Press saying: “‘Juice B Crypts’ is an engaging listen that’s a curious mix of exacting guitar and electronic tones that are laser-focused in their execution, as well as stuff that’s as arbitrary as hell: song fragments ending before they start, piano solos bookending the album and random collisions between men and machinery are positively glorious.”
Battles are champions of experimental rock music, aided in no small part by their highly creative and seasoned personnel; drummer John Stanier of Helmet and Tomahawk, and guitarist/keyboardist Ian Williams, formerly of pioneering American math rock darlings Don Caballero. The group originally began as a four piece, but as of 2018 were reduced to a duo, however they have proved that this has not slowed them down in the slightest. Juice B Crypts is a fun, somewhat unpredictable album made up of hypnotic, complex loops, tight, snappy drumming and twisted guitar riffing.
In the process of promoting the record, Battles performed the songs “Titanium 2 Step” and “Fort Greene Park” for Highsnobiety’s Cued Up series. The band was joined by vocalist Sal Principato of classic no-wave group Liquid Liquid. You can watch the utterly face-melting session below.
According to a press release, Battles are presently working on new material that will culminate in the follow up to their last record.
As mentioned earlier, Battles will be bringing their explosive live show to audiences all around the world, and will be playing in Europe and the UK in June, August and September. The band will also be supporting Primus on tour during a great number of their forthcoming US shows, which will take place in late March, April, May and early June.
