UK pop-rock band Bastille surprised and amazed fans today with the release of their new ‘Goosebumps EP’. The collection consists of three songs - ‘survivin”, ‘WHAT YOU GONNA DO???’, and the title track.
The opening track is ‘Goosebumps’ with its smooth vocals and perfectly arranged instrumental, an R&B influenced piece which was produced by Kenny Beats. Frontman Dan Smith said of the song, “We wanted to make a throwback R&B song and something a bit more playful.”
This is followed by ‘survivin” which was originally released was a single in September, despite the EP only being announced earlier this week. Finally, the EP closes with a new rock track ‘WHAT YOU GONNA DO?’, sounding more like the band’s classic style of music and featuring Graham Coxon.
Smith also discussed what the EP means to him, explaining, “Working on these songs has been such a brilliantly distracting part of this year for us. This is the tip of the iceberg of what we’ve been doing, but it’s been fun to show people a few different sides to what we’ve been up to.”
Along with the three studio songs are two stripped back covers recorded at One Eyed Jack’s Studios: ‘survivin’ and ‘Goosebumps’. There is most certainly something for everyone on this release, with influences from R&B, pop, rock, and more, as well as both busy driving versions and calmer editions with satisfying jazz chords.
The singer hinted at exciting plans for next year which are yet to be revealed, but it has been announced that Bastille with headline Latitude Festival 2021.
