Bastille have announced details of their 2019 European tour, with dates in the UK and Ireland, ahead of releasing their highly anticipated third album. The four-piece kick start the UK and Ireland leg of their 26-date, Still Avoiding Tomorrow, tour Part 1, in Dublin, on the 27th of January 2019 and will come to an end in Amsterdam, on the 10th of March 2019. Tickets for the shows can be purchased here, on Friday the 5th of October, when they go on general sale. The UK leg features nights in Birmingham, Brighton, Manchester, Glasgow and London, before heading to Europe.
Describing the tour, Bastille’s Dan Smith said: “We’ve spent most of this last year working on loads of new music and touring different versions of our songs so now we’re excited to head back out and revisit more intimate rooms and play a bunch of new songs in the lead up to our new album. This album is very self-contained in its story and its sound. But I’ve also massively contradicted myself. There’s a lot of diversity in there, and I think it defines this last year and this era of what we want to do. There’s definitely an element of euphoria on the record , but also how close that is to despair at the same time.”
English singer/song-writer, Dan Smith formed Bastille in 2010, what first began as a solo project and then expanding it to include a full band. He took the group’s name from Bastille Day, which coincides with his birthday. The rest of the band is comprised of Chris Wood, William Farquarson and Kyle Simmons.
The band released their debut single ‘Flaws’ as a limited edition seven inch on Young & Lost Club, in June 2010. They then self-released their ‘Laura Palmer’ EP in November 2011, their last release before signing to EMI. Bastille’s debut LP ‘Bad Blood’ followed on March 4 2013 and went straight to Number One in the Official Albums Chart.
‘Quarter Past Midnight’, is the first track to be taken from the quartets forthcoming third album. Speaking about the track, Smith, said: “It’s that moment in a night out where it’s literally quarter past midnight and someone people are peeling off and going home, but you just want to keep on going. You throw yourself into whatever’s next, and it’s that euphoric moment that doesn’t quite ever come back.”
Confirming the record’s completion, Smith said: “It’s finished and our record label refuse to give me a specific date for the release, because they know I will just immediately say it out loud.”
