This isn’t the first time that Bastille have used their status in the music world to help others. Last month saw the band play a special, one-off show at the Union Chapel in London, for Streets of London, another charity that deals with the problem of homelessness in the capital. Lead singer Dan is an ambassador for the charity and told MTV how he first became involved. “I was first introduced to the charity when two or three Christmases ago Ellie Goulding did a show for them at Shepards Bush Empire, where she asked lots of friends to come along and play”. He then added “We went and did a couple of tunes and I met the people who run the charity and since then they’ve asked me to be involved in one of their campaigns and then they asked if I would be up for being an ambassador. I don’t feel worthy of being an ambassador for anything but if it’s any help whatsoever, I said I would be very happy to. This was our first opportunity as a band to do something to support them using whatever minuscule influence we might have”.
Meanwhile, Simon Cowell has organised a charity single to be recorded with proceeds going to the victims and families affected by the Grenfell Tower fire. The song is a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water, featuring artists such as Robbie Williams, Celine Dion, Rita Ora and Emeli Sande. The single will be released tomorrow, Wednesday, June 21st at 8 am.
