London-based artist Baby Queen, real name Bella Latham, is one of the youngest, fastest rising star in the alt-pop scene and she’s back with a new single called ‘Dover Beach’, inspired by Matthew Arnold’s poem with the same name. Latham has released many successful singles so far including ‘Raw Thoughts’ and ‘These Drugs’, and her debut EP ‘Medicine’ was released in 2020.
And now the 23-year-old has returned with a brand new single about love, heartbreak and loneliness. The video was filmed at Dover, featuring its signature white cliffs. The M83-like dreamy pop tune features honest and personal lyrics, which have always made a presence in Baby Queen’s tracks.

Latham spoke about the inspirations behind ‘Dover Beach’, saying: “In school, I was obsessed with this poem called ‘Dover Beach’ by Matthew Arnold and I always wanted to visit the Dover cliffs, so I went there alone on a writing trip in October last year. I actually wrote the melody and lyrics of this song while I was sitting on the beach. It’s about being infatuated with somebody and seeing them everywhere you look.”
She then went on to add the darker and more relatable side behind the lyrics, saying: “I was kind of pissed that I went to look at the beach, all I could think about was this person, hence the lyric ‘you stole the view of Dover Beach.’ It’s another internal struggle with my own insecurities and a sort of acceptance of the fact that I can’t escape my daydreams of this person, even if I go to a different place.”
