Hotly tipped singer, song-writer and producer Astræa has released a beautiful and moving acoustic version of her debut single, ‘Anybody Out There’. The release comes ahead of the London, by way of Minnesota, singer’s live show. Astræa has revealed that her next show in the capital will be, at St James’s Church, in Piccadilly, on the 21st of March 2019.
The new acoustic version has been described as stripped back version of the original. Speaking about the single, Astræa said: “‘Anybody Out There’ is about loneliness, something that every single person has experienced at some point in their lives. It’s part of the universal human experience but it can be really harmful. Whether it’s friends, family, or lovers, we need people in our lives to survive.”
Continuing she said, “Without these close relationships, we can experience a multitude of issues or mental health problems. This song for me was an expression of how I’ve felt alone at different points in my life and one that I hope can be there for someone who might be experiencing loneliness.”
The original version’s video premiered with Clash, who called it “a poignant, timely work… frosted alt-pop that is both sparse and overwhelming”. Featuring shots of a homeless man cut against footage of his happy childhood, the video paints a stark picture of the realities of homelessness, and navigates the anonymity associated with it to highlight a pressing and pandemic social issue.
Speaking about the video for her track, Astræa said: “I want to draw attention to the isolation and loneliness that homeless people face. It’s often much easier to walk on past a homeless person than to face the fact that it could be any one of us in their position. With homelessness rates and deaths of homeless people on the rise, I want to ask the question, isn’t anybody out there for them?”
Astræa is a classically trained pianist and an accomplished songwriter and producer, whose voice may be familiar from her reinterpretation of Olive’s ‘You’re Not Alone’, used in the current Lloyds bank TV advert, which she arranged, produced and performed. Her version of ‘You’re Not Alone’ has had over 3 million streams, and charted in Spotify’s UK Viral Chart at #18, iTunes Main Charts at number 23 and iTunes Singer-Songwriter Chart at number 2.
Having previously sold out a headline show at London’s St Pancras Old Church, Astræa’s next show in the capital will be at the even-more beautiful St James’s Church, Piccadilly on the 21st of March 2019. Tickets are available now, and can be purchased here.
