The Sheffield band that needs no introduction, Arctic Monkeys, have just been announced as one of the headliners of Lowlands Festival 2022. The Netherlands festival, which takes place at Evenemententerrein Walibi Holland in Biddinghuizen, is set to return this year from August 19-21.
The festival with an average attendance of about 55,000 visitors will feature over 200 acts on more than ten stages. Arctic Monkeys lead the 68 new additions to the Lowlands 2022 line-up that were announced yesterday (February 2).
The bill, which was posted on the festival’s official Instagram page also includes many other UK artists such as former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher and winner of the Mercury Prize Arlo Parks as well as Lewis Capaldi, Bring Me The Horizon, Sam Fender, Slowthai, Wet Leg and Yard Act among others.
Originally the successor to one of the first Dutch music festivals: A Flight to Lowlands Paradise the annual three-day festival isn’t just for musical acts. In fact, it offers an indoor and outdoor cinema, street theatre, cabaret, stand-up, ballet and many other varieties of performance.
Pre-sale tickets for the festival will be available from 11 am on Saturday (February 5), and will also be open to those who bought tickets for the Lowlands in either 2020 or 2021. Any remaining tickets will then go on sale on February 12 at 11 am. When they are available you can purchase your tickets and find out any further information about this year’s festival by going here.
Fans who attend the festival may also get the chance to hear some new tunes from the Arctic Monkeys, as back in November the band’s drummer Matt Helders revealed that their latest album is “pretty much” finished and is likely to arrive this year. He was asked on 5 Live Breakfast by presenter Rick Edwards if the new album and follow-up to 2018’s Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino was “ready to go”. Helders replied: “Yeah, pretty much, yeah. It was a bit disjointed how we had to do it, and there are bits to finish off, but yeah, it’s all in the works.”
