The news about the tour came shortly after drummer Matt Helders revealed in an interview that the album is almost ready. “Yeah, pretty much, yeah. It was a bit disjointed how we had to do it, and there are bits to finish off, but yeah, it’s all in the works” he said.
“I think by the time we get everything together it’ll be next year. Hopefully we can get out and tour next summer” he added.
Asked about the sound on the new album he said: “We tend to always move it on a little bit, For us, because we’re so involved in it, it always makes sense. They always kind of pick up where the other one left off in a way. It makes sense when you think about it in the context of the last record. But we always do try and do something a bit different – it’s kind of hard to describe. You can tell it’s the same band”.
Back in January, the band confirmed working on a follow-up album to Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino which received amazing reviews and peaked at No 1 on UK Album Charts. Mxdwn review praised it: “From front to back, there’s only good music to be found at this inn, so come and stay for a while. Leave that baggage by the door and enjoy this momentary step out of reality.” The Guardian gave the album four stars and said that “it is set, sonically and aesthetically, in a cocktail lounge, looking back on the home planet with a seething croon“. Pitchfork praised Alex Turner in their review saying “he’s regenerated Arctic Monkeys in service of a delirious and artful satire directed at the foundations of modern society“.
Tickets to the ArtcicMonkeys shows will go on sale next Wednesday, 24th November at 9 am GMT here. There are also rumours that they might headline Leeds Festival next year. All to be confirmed.
