Architects are back with the official studio recording of their brand new track ‘Dead Butterflies‘, the third promotional single off their hugely anticipated ninth album For Those That Wish To Exist. The record is expected in just over a month on 26 February 2021 via Epitaph Records, and will also feature their last two monumental releases ‘Black Lungs‘ and ‘Animals‘.
‘Dead Butterflies‘ was performed live for the first time during Architects’ exclusive Royal Albert Hall concert, streamed online worldwide on 21 November. At the time of publication, the video has already reached almost 100,000 views on YouTube and has ranked amongst the Top 20 trending videos of the day.
The video for the atmospheric ‘Dead Butterflies‘ is taken from the live Royal Albert Hall performence and directed by Tom Welsh and Taylor Fawcett. The track is written and performed entirely by the Brighton metalcore heavyweights, with lyrics and production done by drummer Dan Searle, and co-produced by guitarist Josh Middleton. Additional production credits of the song, as well as the entire upcoming record feature Pete Miles, Zakk Cervini (mixing), Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood (drums engineering) and Don Searle again (vocal production and engineering).
‘Dead Butterflies‘ show yet another side of Architects’ reinvigorated music direction on display in the last couple of months. With even bigger focus and attention to melodies, instrumentation and sonic scapes, the single takes a calm step back from the passionate charge of ‘Black Lungs‘ and apocalyptic tension on ‘Animals‘. With old records appearing to be a complete and closed chapter in the band’s career, For Those That Wish To Exist sound more and more intriguing with each following promotional single.
Architects’ latest track was immediately picked up by all major media outlets, review blogs and reaction channels, with positive comments flying in from all direction, building up the hype of the upcoming album release. Rock Sound were amongst the first to perfectly describe the track: “Waves of beautifully transcendent guitars, billowing horns and ethereal atmospheres wrap themselves around your ears and show off the real delicate beauty at the core of Architects‘ songwriting.”

The modern metal flagmen are appearing on their first ever Rock Sound full-band cover story, with a “HUGE 18-page feature with an all-new photoshoot, as Dan, Sam and Josh walk us through their most ambitious, breathtaking album yet“. Architects are also featured on the cover of the next edition of Upset Magazine where editor Tylor Kelly spoke to Sam Carter and Dan Searle about “introspection, psychedelics, the permanence of music, and the impermanence of our own existence.”
Following yet another monumental release with ‘Dead Butterflies‘ today, For Those That Wish To Exist simply cannot come out sooner. Alongside the powerful three singles that already premiered in the last few months, and adding ‘Discourse Is Dead‘ that was also performed during their Royal Alber Hall show, Architects are preparing huge collaborations with Mike Kerr (Royal Blood), Winston McCall (Parkway Drive) and Simon Neil (Biffy Clyro).
The band’s ninth record is set for 26 February 2021, available to pre-order in the UK here and already considered a solid pretender for album of the year.
