The pop sensation Anne-Marie will drop a comeback single, “Birthday”, on Friday 7th, February. The new tune seems to serve as the first taste of her upcoming second studio album.
The 28-year-old singer previously teased new music back in January 20 with on her Instagram. The post was simply a pink image captioned, “See you later x”. Following this post, the “2002” hitmaker uploaded her picture saying she was “back” with “#AM2″, a hashtag that promised the imminence of the sophomore album.
The constant teasing has finally ended when Anne-Marie posted an artwork of her new single which is called “Birthday”. The single will arrive on February 7. Pre-order and pre-save for “Birthday” are also available now. See the single cover and the post below.
Anne-Marie Rose Nicholson rose to fame in the UK music scene back in 2016 with “Alarm“. The track peaked at number 16 on the single chart and was certified Platinum in the UK. “Rockabye“, a number 1 single by Clean Bandit, is actually the track to which Nicholson contributed her vocal that put the singer on the spotlight. The single spent nine weeks atop of the chart, marking an impressive achievement for both artists.
After the two singles, Anne-Marie continued to release a series of tracks, such as “Ciao Adios“, “Either Way“, and “Heavy“. The first of those hit number 9 on the chart, becoming the singer’s very first top 10 in the UK. Having gained popularity from tune after tune, Anne-Marie finally unleashed her debut studio album titled Speak Your Mind in April 2018.
Speak Your Mind was a complete success for Anne-Marie both nationally and internationally. The album debuted at number 3 on the album chart, with “2002” rising to number 3 on the single chart. Meanwhile, the singer received more recognition outside the UK with “FRIENDS“, a single with American EDM producer Marshmello, which went to number 11 on Billboard Hot 100.
The hype of Anne-Marie has then helped her to gain more popularities in the music scene. She has collaborated with a good number of A-listed musicians like Ed Sheeran (“Perfect to Me“), David Guetta (“Don’t Leave Me Alone“), James Arthur (“Rewrite the Stars“), and Lauv (“f**k, i’m lonely“). She also went on tour in support of her first LP around Europe, and some of the shows were sold out.
Regarding the forthcoming album, Anne-Marie talked to Music Week back in March last year. The singer aimed to take more parts in writing and put out “fresh” music.
“I love the studio. I was able to get in there and have some sort of therapy with my own brain for a week and that’s going towards the next album,” said Anne-Marie. She continued, “The first album was made up of so many songs that people had heard for years and that’s amazing. But for me as a creative person, I’m writing something new all the time and all I want to do is put it out straight away. That wasn’t the way it happened with [the debut] album so, for this next one, I’m hoping to be more active on writing and put something out straight away that’s fresh and no one’s heard before.”
“Birthday” will drop this Friday, and the music video seems to be premiered, if not simultaneously, afterwards.
