The life of singer – songwriter Amy Winehouse, who tragically died on 23rd July 2011, at the age of 27, will be honoured in a special BBC Two documentary later this year. ‘Amy Winehouse: 10 Years On’ will investigate the life and career of the artist through the eyes of her friends and family. The film will show unseen private material provided by Amy’s family, “a celebratory and intimate portrayal of one of the brightest musical talents”. “Whilst being a celebration of her musical genius and featuring rare and unheard performances, it will also offer a reinterpretation of the prevailing narrative around her rise and fall, told by those closest to her” said editors Max Gogarty and Rachel Davies.
The artist’s mother, Janis Winehouse wanted to “make this timely and personal documentary” – informed BBC press release. “I don’t feel the world knew the true Amy, the one that I brought up, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to offer an understanding of her roots and a deeper insight into the real Amy” she added. Friends and family members who will take part in the documentary, described it as: “female-driven interpretation of her life, her loves and her legacy”.
On top of that, on the 7th May will be released an expanded collection of audio version of the songs from ‘A Tribute To Amy Winehouse’ By Jools Holland and the BBC One Sessions Live At Porchester Hall. It will come as 3 -LP’s or 3- CD’s. Announcement says: “This comprehensive collection captures the strong and enduring relationship that Amy enjoyed with the BBC and is further proof of what an extraordinarily talented, completely original, and truly engaging performer Amy was”.
The music collection will include singers BBC radio sessions from her “first-ever TV performances, as well as unheard gems, rarities, unique covers and live versions of classic songs from her studio albums, 2003’s Frank and 2006’s Back to Black.
