Alternative pop singer Alfie Templeman just shares his new single “Happiness in Liquid Form” from an upcoming EP (via Chess Club Records). The track was premiered on the BBC Radio 1 program Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World last night. An official lyric video was also dropped alongside the track, which can be seen below.
“‘Happiness in Liquid Form’ is the most colourful sugary disco-pop song I’ve put out so far,” the 17-year-old singer said about his new track. He also shared that the track is a collaboration with The Vaccines’ Justin Young and his close friend Will Bloomfield: “It came about so easily one day in the studio with Justin from The Vaccines and his right-hand man Will and by the end of the day we knew we had something special on our hands.”
Templeman is a DIY bedroom pop singer/songwriter from Bedfordshire. His musical style is bedroom pop driven by the refreshing sound of guitar in a DIY fashion that resonates with the work by Boy Pablo and Bombay Bicycle Club. At 15, he was signed to Chess Club Records—the London-based home label of A-listed indie alumni with the likes of Wolf Alice, Momford & Sons, MØ, Sundara Karma, and Swim Deep—and released his debut EP ‘Like an Animal‘ in 2018.
Will Street, the founder of Chess Club Records, praises Templeman as one of the most gifted young musicians. “Aflie is undoubtably one of the most naturally gifted young musicians/producer we have worked with at the label,” Street spoke to Billboard. “Alf lives and breathes music and has an infectious enthusiasm for his art. His approach to songwriting is instinctive and direct, and he just has a natural ability to write great hooks and grooves that make you feel good…it’s rare to find such confidence, aptitude and maturity in an artist so young.”
Following the breakthrough in an indie scene, Templeman released second EP ‘Sunday Morning Cereal‘ in 2019, with “Stop Thinking (About Me)” cut as a single that has gained over three million streams on Spotify. A seven-track mini-album titled ‘Don’t Go Wasting Time‘ was also released in the same year, and “Used to Love” was chosen as a promotional single from the album.
This May, the Bedfordshire singer was scheduled to perform with his label fellows Phoebe Green, The Wha, and Coach Party for the Chess Club Class of 2020 tour. However, the label had to announce the cancellation of the tour due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
We are very sad to announce that we need to cancel the Chess Club Class of 2020 tour in May due to the current Covid-19 outbreak
Ticket holders will be contacted and refunded from the point of purchase.
