“Alfa Mist is one of the driving forces behind a young and vibrant scene of UK musicians, who’ve taken on jazz as their musical narrative. On his new album Bring Backs the producer, self-taught pianist and rapper takes us on a sonic trip back to his beat-making past on the streets of East London, through the depth and musicality he discovered composing and playing jazz.” An excerpt from the Bandcamp page of Newham native and rising star Alfa Mist, whose third album ‘Bring Backs’ has landed on the platform today.
Bring Backs follows the breakout 2017 record ‘Antiphon’ and the equally successful follow up ‘Structuralism’ in 2019. During the latter half of the 2010s and in to this decade, Alfa has been sharing with the world his loungey jazz rooted production style finding itself into coffee shop playlists across the country. The new album takes the sound to the next level, filled to the brim with textures and soulful drum patterns taking us on a journey through the inners of London. The LP spanning nine tracks sets out to connect the listener with his roots as an artist and the influences that have shaped his sound all the way from the early days to the present.
Last night saw Alfa Mist premiering the album on YouTube with a live performance Metropolis Studios in London. The album out via Anti Records, his first release as part of a label that isn’t his own, features a range of physicals available to purchase. Vinyl, both black and coloured, are available complete with gatefold. CD is also available along with the LP on the official store. Alfa is a key figure in the rising jazz/soul scene in the United Kingdom, and Bring Backs shows no stoppage to his pioneering nature. Stream the album out today below.
