Adele has confirmed that she doesn’t know when she will be able to release her much anticipated fourth studio album. After a fan commented on a recent Instagram post saying; “Adele where’s the album?” followed by a crying emoji, Adele replied saying; “I honestly have no idea.”
In February, video footage surfaced of Adele performing at a friend’s wedding, where she claimed she would have new music out be September. However, she is one of the many artists whose album release have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This confirmation from the singer follows a comment from her manager, Jonathan Dickins, who spoke to MusicWeek in June saying that COVID-19 is mostly to blame; “It isn’t coming in September, it’ll be ready when it’s ready. We’re all in the same boat, you’re doing stuff and then all of a sudden, the world stops. It’ll come when it’s ready. I can’t put a date on that yet. We have music, but we’re still working.”
It has also been reported that Adele will be working with famous producer Raphael Saadiq on the album. A source revealed to The Sun that Adele has “been a fan of Raphael since she was a teenager and loves his back catalogue,” and that “she wants her next album to be full of soul, with a more eclectic sound.” There are also reports that she is working with singer John Legend. The source added that she “is pouring her heart and soul into this record, including how she feels post-divorce.”
This will be Adele’s first album in five years, following the Grammy Award winning album 25, which sold over 23 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time, and the fourth-best selling album of the 21st century.
