Jeff Goldblum fans may soon be able to see his work in record stores as well as on the silver screen, as he has announced his debut album will be coming later this year.
The 65-year-old actor has been a keen jazz musician ever since the age of 15, and has been playing with his jazz band, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, in venues across America since the 1990s. He even hosted a jazz night at the former Rockwell Table & Stage in LA.
However, Goldblum didn’t come to the attention of record executives until he appeared on the Graham Norton show, accompanying soul-jazz artist Gregor Portor on piano. Following the appearance, representatives from Universal’s classical label Decca Records flew out to meet him in LA.
A&R director at Decca, Tom Lewis, said in a statement that “everyone loves Jeff Goldblum”, calling him a “fantastic jazz pianist, a great bandleader and just about the loveliest man in the world”. He went on to say that he was excited to be involved with the record, and that bringing “Jeff’s music into people’s homes then we will be helping, in our own small way, to make the world a happier place”.
Jeff himself added that he was “delighted to be in cahoots with the wonderful people at Decca,” and went so far as to call it “one of the most prestigious and coolest record labels of all time”.
Though the album may be some way off yet, Goldblum fans can look forward to his upcoming film appearances, such as his reprisal of the role of Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which will be coming to cinemas on June 22nd.
