Ferris & Sylvester have released their brand new single ‘Sickness’, which finds the duo at their deepest and darkest yet. The single, that is somewhere between the blues and folk, was premiered with ‘Clash’ and has also been featured as BBC Introducing’s ‘Upload Of The Week’, with great support across the board.
The new release arrives following the, critically acclaimed, London-based duo performed at the Eurosonic Festival, in Holland, on Friday the 18th of January 2019. After the release and sudden success of their kitchen recorded and self-produced EP ‘Made In Streatham’ last year, the duo have expanded their sound and song-writing into deeper and darker places with the release of ‘Sickness’, alongside producer Michael Rendall – who has previously worked with Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Echo & The Bunnymen.
Speaking about the single, Ferris & Sylvester said: “Sickness was one of the first songs we wrote together. It came quickly and felt powerful almost instantly. It’s about human relationships – the power and the frustration – and the desire to throw it all away.
“We recorded the track on our last day in the studio with Michael and continued into the early hours; it felt important to keep it raw and let the song speak for itself. Everything you hear was tracked live and a lot of it was recorded in one take, the guitar solo and vocals for instance. It’s our proudest piece of work to date.”
‘Sickness’ follows the release of the duo’s last single ‘Burning River’, which was also recorded with Michael Rendall and clocked up well over half a million plays in its first two months on Spotify. The songs were written during the pair’s writing trips to Iceland and find the duo at their most raw and powerful to-date.
Ferris & Sylvester have received strong support from BBC Music throughout last year, with radio plays coming from 6Music and Radio 2, while they also performed a number of shows in association with BBC Introducing who have now named the band in their ‘Best Of’ lists for both 2017 & 2018.
The BBC Introducing support continues for Ferris & Sylvester in 2019, with the duo set to perform a live session at Maida Vale, which will be aired on Cerys Matthews’ Radio 2 Blues Show, on the 28th of January 2019 Jan. They will be playing their first ever US shows this year and will be joining Huw Stephen’s and Steve Lamacq, in Texas, to perform their debut on the BBC Music Showcase, at SXSW, on March 15th. During this time, the duo will also be tying a wider US tour around this date.
They’ve had amazing support from the likes of Rolling Stone Magazine, MOJO, The Guardian, The Independent, The Sun, BBC 6Music, Radio 2 and BBC Introducing support. They clock up millions of plays on Spotify and have topped the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart.
Ferris & Sylvester will be embarking on their first-ever headline tour across the UK and Ireland next month. The duo have already sold out their largest headline show, of their career so far, in London, where they will play The Lexington, on the 11th of February 2019. They’ve also sold out a number of regional dates on their nine-date run. Tickets can be purchased here.
