Two UK shows from Canadian folk-rock legend Neil Young and his back-up band Crazy Horse have been cancelled after guitarist Frank ‘Poncho’ Sampedro injured his hand.
The band released the following statement yesterday:
‘Due to an accident involving Crazy Horse, the remaining dates on the Neil Young and Crazy Horse tour of Europe and the British Isles have been cancelled. We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes to our fans or the festivals where we were scheduled to appear. As you must be, we too are disappointed at this unfortunate turn of events.’
The band were scheduled to play seven further dates on their tour, including Liverpool Echo Arena and London’s 02 Arena, as well as headlining the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium.
Young began working with Crazy Horse during his early career as a member of Buffalo Springfield, and recorded with them on his second studio release, ‘Everybody Knows This is Nowhere’ in 1969. Since then, Young has collaborated with the band on nearly half of his 35 albums. After nearly a decade-long separation, 2012 saw two releases from Neil Young and Crazy Horse, the experimental, ‘Psychedelic Pill’, and the folk-cover volume, ‘Americana’, with many noting the double-punch as a superb return to form for Young.
Hopefully Sampedro will recover quickly, and the band will return to the UK soon. In the meantime, here’s a sample from Psychedelic Pill, the official video for ‘Driftin’ Back‘
