The Wombats are hitting the road next January on their biggest UK headline tour, which includes six huge performances for the band, in support of their fourth studio album “Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life”. The tour will see the Liverpool-based trio heading out on the road on the 25th of January 2019 which is scheduled to conclude on the 1st of February 2019. This comes off the back of a successful year for the band, who sold out their UK and European tour, and performing at the Reading and Leeds festival.
Speaking about how he wanted ‘Beautiful People Ruin Your Life’ to be different from ‘Glitterbug’, frontman Matthew Murphy, said: “I wanted a bit more swagger. More confidence. I wanted the songs to be more sure of themselves, which is where I feel we are as a band.”
He continued: “I don’t tend to think of it as a whole album when I’m writing, I don’t sit down and come up with one idea. But looking back on Glitterbug, that’s an album about feeling trapped and escaping through partying. This album is different. I’m married, I’ve got a kid now, it’s coming through arrested development and trying to become mature adults, which is something I constantly fail at it.”
To celebrate the announcement, of the bands biggest UK headline tour, the band released a new single called ‘BEE-STING’, which will be released on limited edition on 9th of November, and will also feature alongside two new recordings on an expanded version of Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life.
“I think the song is again a bit of an homage to the ‘90s, a bit of a psychedelic nod to early Dandy Warhols, maybe. Our UK tour in March/April was probably my favourite tour ever, but it feels like this one is going to go off even more. Wembley is going to be a real moment for us,” Murphy says about the newly released track.
