UK punk rock band Dead! have announced that they will no longer be playing shows or recording music together, in a Twitter statement simply titled “Dead! Is Dead.”

The four-piece have been making music ever since they met in 2013 and, after releasing numerous singles and an LP independently, they finally signed to Infectious Music / BMG in April of 2016. 2018 marked the release of their first ever full-length effort “The Golden Age of Not Even Trying”.

Their statement didn’t include their reasoning for the split, but did include an apology for the fact that they “won’t be playing any more shows this summer”. That means several of their upcoming festival slots have been cancelled, including their appearance at 2000 Trees Festival in Cheltenham in July.

The band emphasised that the decision was “not one [they made] lightly”, and extended a special thank you to anyone who “has come to a show, bought a CD, worn [their] merch, or let [them] sleep on your floor”. They closed out the statement by reminding fans that they were “the damned, restless future”, finally signing off as just “the boys” – a reference to their song, The Boys † The Boys.

Although they have cancelled all upcoming summer appearances, they will still be playing a sold-out show at Camden Underworld in October, which the band have said will be a “farewell show and celebration of Dead!”.
