Welsh rock stalwarts manic Street preachers have surprised fans with news of both a surprise new album, but also a massive Arena tour to go with it.
Just last month, the band had teased fans that they may never make another album, but have now revealed that 2018 will see them release their 13th studio album. The project was recorded at the Preachers’ new musical headquarters, the ‘Door to the River’ Studios in Newport, in their local Wales. You can see the trailer for the album’s release below.
The album will be titled Resistance is Futile, and follows a series of both electric and acoustic projects from the band, named Rewind the Film, and Futurology, respectively. Both albums received critical acclaim upon their release, giving fans cause to be excited for the release of this new project, on April 6, 2018. you can pre-order the album here. Tickets for 2018’s tour go on sale at 9am on November 25, and the full list of tour dates are listed below.
“The main themes of Resistance is Futile are memory and loss; forgotten history; confused reality and art as a hiding place and inspiration,” said the band in a statement. “It’s obsessively melodic – in many ways referencing both the naive energy of Generation Terrorists and the orchestral sweep of Everything Must Go. After delay and difficulties getting started, the record has come together really quickly over the last few months through a surge of creativity and some old school hard work.”
