The Welsh band Stereophonics are due to release their 10th studio album, ‘Scream Above The Sounds’ very soon on October 27th 2017. This is to celebrate them being together for a very successful 20 years, marking the 20th anniversary of the band’s first record, Word Gets Around.
Stereophonics have already released three new singles from the album, including ‘All In One Night’, ‘Caught By The Wind’ and the latest to come out is ‘Before Anyone Knew Our Name’. This single is said to be wrote for the bands late drummer Stuart Cable who sadly passed away in 2010 at the age of 40. Cable played with Stereophonics between 1992 and 2003.
When speaking to Rolling Stone about the heartfelt track, front man of the band Kelly Jones revealed “That’s a reflection of losing Stuart Cable”. Kelly also went onto say “Stuart and I lived seven doors apart all our lives, and from the age of 12 I was in a band with him. So we were trying to be the people we became for a long time, before anybody knew who we were”. He added “There’s a lot of history there and sometimes people make judgments or calls on what happened when they don’t really know the backstory. Jones and Cable were still friends for seven years after he left the band, so his tragic passing made Kelly keep it very private about what happened, because they “were like brothers and we didn’t want to dish any dirt”.
Lyrics for the Scream Above the Sounds seventh track include: ‘I miss you man” and “Who did we become? Amen, we were meant to be. Was that really your destiny?”. Jones also said that the song reflects on the early days of the Stereophonics.
This tribute to their respected bandmate and life long friend has gone further to be reflected in the music video, which was released yesterday from the band.
Jones revealed that he recorded the video himself on his phone, where he sadly performs the song on the piano, as well as driving a car, all in black and white. This home made effect makes it all very personal to watch and genuine, which makes it easy to concentrate on the heartfelt and honest lyrics.
The classic rock band have announced a mountain of tour dates set to be in arenas all around the UK, to go along with the release of the album in 2018. You can still get tickets for this here.
