Nine Inch Nails have shared their second track of their long-awaited new EP Add Violence.
The new track, titled ‘This Isn’t the Place’, is the second song to be shared by NIN after their return on July 13, having previously released ‘Less Than’. You can listen to both tracks below.
Fans on Reddit have pointed out that the music video accompanying the release of the track was also created by the same team behind NIN’s Year Zero ARG game, which accompanied the album of the same name.
Add Violence will be the second installation in a recent trilogy of EPs from Trent Reznor and co, with the series beginning at the end of 2016 with Not the Actual Events.
With Add Violence set for release at the end of this week, the full-if admittedly brief- tracklist for the EP has been revealed, and reads as follows:
‘Less Than’
‘The Lovers’
‘This Isn’t The Place’
‘Not Anymore’
‘The Background World’
With eyes firmly still on the horizon, and the conclusion to their trilogy of EPs, Reznor spoke to Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 radio show, and revealed that both he and the band are not yet sure of the direction that NIN will head in with regards to the sound of their third release.
“I’ll tell you the blueprint of this suite of records has been starting with the kind of script – the lyrical construct, the world that they sit in,” Reznor explained. “And then, really following inspiration in the studio to find out musically kind of feels inspiring at that time. When we did Not the Actual Events, we were really seduced by the violence of it. The kind of throwing Hesitation Marks out the window and being unafraid to explore approaches we have in the past with the kind of, you know, punch in the face feel to it.
