Ed Sheeran headlined the Pyramid Stage on the final night of Glastonbury Festival. Opening with his love song to hometown Suffolk, ‘Castle On The Hill’ he readied the crowds for an energetic and soulful set from the singer and his trusty guitar.
After launching into track ‘Eraser’ taken from his latest album Divide, he told the crowds “Thank you so much for staying on a Sunday night to watch me.” He then asked the crowds to turn on their phone lights whilst he played his debut single ‘The A Team’ and the whole field lit up like a Christmas Tree, showing just how many people went to see the star play.
Speaking to the BBC before his set, Ed stated that he felt out of place at the legendary festival. “I’m definitely the one that’s out of place on that list, but I think that’s exciting.” He continued with “I’m actually more excited for this than I was for my Wembley Stadium shows because when you’re playing your own shows you’re not really winning anyone over because they’ve all parted with cash to buy a ticket, so you’ve already won them over,” he explained. “But I think I’m going to be playing to a lot of people who might have heard some of my songs on the radio, but they’re Glastonbury-goers, they’re not fans of me”.
Ed closed his set with hit ‘You Need Me Man, I don’t Need You’ telling the audience that it is a song he wrote when he was 15 and should probably stop playing it but wants to “give it a chance tonight” The exciting end performance included Sheeran wrapping a rainbow flag around himself, presumably marking LBGT Pride which takes place throughout the month of June, with celebrations being held at different times all over the world.
