Following the release of their fifth studio album Humanz last week, Gorillaz have announced a UK arena tour to accompany the album. The 5 date UK stint will be a the culmination of a greater European tour, beginning in Brighton on November 27, before concluding at London’s O2 Arena on December 4. You can see the full list of dates below.
Humanz was a hotly anticipated project, after a lot of social media activity and animated narratives depicting the band’s four members’ various exploits, which began last autumn. Four tracks were released to preview the album, before the eventual release on April 28. As usual, the alum features a litany of musical collaborations, including Vince Staples, Pusha T, Popcaan, and Jehnny Beth of Savages.
Earlier this year the band announced that they would be celebrating their return by hosting their Demon Dayz Festival, taking place at Dreamland in Margate, on June 10. Tickets for the event sold out within ten minutes of going on sale back in March, and tickets for the new dates will go on sale at 9am on Friday May 5, and can be purchased here.
Amongst the features of Humanz was ex-Oasis man Noel Gallagher, currently singer and guitarist for his High Flying Birds, who raised a few eyebrows by hooking up with former Britpop rival of Gorillaz leader and former Blur frontman Damon Albarn. After collaborating on ‘We Got The Power’, Albarn told Rolling Stone that the track was a “victory lap” for Britpop, with the former adversaries making peace. “At one point, that track was Noel, me and [Blur‘s] Graham Coxon. It was the ultimate self-congratulatory Britpop moment. It was the victory lap, these geezers singing about all the power they had” Albarn explained.
However, the combination of the two artists didn’t go over at all well with Noel’s brother, and fellow Oasis singer Liam Gallagher, who took to Twitter to voice his anger with both men, calling Albarn a “gobshite” without even a hint of irony.
Now that dick out of blur and the creepy 1 out of oasis need to hang there heads in shame as it's no dancing in the streets as you were LG x
