“The St. Charles County Police Department sadly confirms the death of Charles Edward Anderson Berry Sr., better known as legendary musician Chuck Berry.
“The family requests privacy during this time of bereavement.”
Berry was a true pioneer of Rock and Roll, and sculpted the earliest days of the genre with songs like ‘Maybellene’ and the legendary ‘Johnny B. Goode’. He defined not only the instrumental sound of bluesy guitar, but also the youthful lyrical themes of love, youth, and also an uncanny ability to tell the listener a story. Despite growing up in segregation, Berry brought black music to the masses, and stayed musically active until well into his eighties, most recently headlining a concert dedicated to him in Cleveland, Ohio.
