Manchester music icons New Order have announced today that they will be doing five special, home town shows at the Old Granada Studios. The band will be teaming up with visual artist Liam Gillick, as well as composer and arranger Joe Duddell for the performances, which will also be backed by a 12 member synthesizer ensemble.
The event will be titled ‘New Order + Liam Gillick: So It Goes…’, and the gigs will take place on June 29 and July 1, 6, 13 and 15. According to the event’s organisers, the performances will feature New Order “deconstructing, rethinking and rebuilding a wealth of material from throughout their career: familiar and obscure, old and new.” Tickets are available here and now.
The ensembles that will be joining them onstage are from the Royal College of Northern Music, while Gillick’s role “will be transforming the historic Stage 1 into an immersive environment, creating a stage set that reacts dynamically to the music.”
The Manchester dates will follow a brief trip to play in Dubai, before a short tour of the United States, including a performance at California’s Coachella festival, before they head back to their hometown for the special shows.
