British hitmakers Coldplay have been forced to postpone their upcoming show at Wembley Stadium, the band cited the reason as a scheduled London Underground strike due to industrial action. The 19th August 2022 is the tour date in question which will now be held on 21st August 2022, the Wembley shows are part of the band’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour.
We’re very sorry for the inevitable inconvenience caused by moving our 19 Aug Wembley date to 21 Aug.
The concert could not be licensed with no Tube service, so choice was cancel or reschedule to 21 Aug. Full ticket refunds are available. Again, sincere apologies. Phil Harvey https://t.co/BfHy6f2dlU— Coldplay (@coldplay) August 3, 2022
A statement issued by the band reads, “Due to planned industrial action on the London Underground network, Coldplay’s Wembley Stadium concert on Friday 19 August 2022 has had to be rescheduled for Sunday 21 August 2022. We have been informed that there will be insufficient transport for ticket holders on August 19 so, with regret, the event cannot be licensed for that day.”
The statement continues to confirm further details, “All tickets for Friday 19 August will remain valid for Sunday 21 August. Any ticketholders who are unable to attend the rescheduled show can get a full refund on their ticket and are requested to contact their point of purchase before 18:00 on Wednesday 10 August 2022.”
The “Yellow” hitmakers’ tour schedule also includes two further gigs at Wembley Stadium, on 13th and 20th August 2022 they will take to the famed venue to perform to a sold out audience. Although the dates also coincide with the planned tube strike, the band have reassured fans that they will go ahead but still urge ticketholders to check before travelling.
Fellow British group London Grammar are currently billed to support Coldplay on selected dates of their tour, the trio are set to open for Coldplay on 16th and 19th August 2022 at Wembley Stadium. The “Californian Soil” group have also joined Coldplay for some of their European shows, one particular set caught the attention of music fans. On Sunday 10th July 2022, London Grammar bandmember Hannah Reid joined the headliners on stage for a special duet of the Selena Gomez hit “Let Somebody Go”.

Reid recently spoke with BANG Showbiz concerning the show, “It sounds really cheesy but it really is a dream come true. One of the first CDs I bought was Coldplay when I was 10 years old so my 10-year-old self just can’t believe that we’re getting to support not only the biggest and best band in the world but the band who are probably the reason that I sing. There are obviously lots of singers who have influenced me but I just remember learning some of their songs on the piano and so for me it was like a really big deal.“
Coldplay are currently concluding the European leg of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour, they will next appear at Brussels’ King Baudouin Stadium for a string of performances. The Grammy Award Winning band’s residency at the Belgium venue begins on 5th August 2022 and will consist of three more sets. After their group’s series of six performances at Wembley Stadium, they will perform on 23rd and 24th August 2022 at Glasgow’s Hampden Park Stadium.
