Haim have rewarded their fan’s patience by giving a clear update on their long-awaited, often-delayed second album.Audiences have been awaiting news on the follow-up to Haim’s highly successful debut album Days Are Gone for some time, with rumours suggesting that the album had previously been pencilled in for a release in autumn of this year, which unfortunately never materialised. The band today spoke to Entertainment Weekly to provide a little more clarity on a potential release date, as well as the album’s sound and their creative process.
“We decided we were going to do what we’ve always done,” said guitarist Danielle Haim, “We wanted to get back to our so-called roots. We needed just it be the three of us in the beginning. We just wanted to get back in the zone.” Danielle also confirmed the the delay to the album has pushed the release date back from autumn 2016 to summer 2017, but was confident that fans would appreciate the band taking their time, explaining “We write everything, we play everything, and we help produce everything. These things take time, and we refuse to put out anything we’re not 100 percent in love with.”
The band also confired that they’ll be working with former Vampire Weekend producer Rostam Batmanglij, as well as rejoining with Days Are Gone producer Ariel Rechtshaid, who has also worked with Brandon Flowers’ solo work. Multi-instrumentalist Alana described the situation as “a lot of cooks in the kitchen,” but was also positive about the album’s prospects, proclaiming “We’re super excited for the next chapter, to just tour our hearts out and really hit the ground running in 2017.”
This sentiment was echoed by bassist Este Haim, who will be playing a fretless, five-string bass guitar for the album, warning fans “You don’t even know what’s coming for you. I’m warning you. You. Don’t. Even. Know.” Earlier this year, the band began to road tests new songs on their latest tour, but cancelled the remainder of the European dates, in order to focus on the new album.
