South African singer-songwriter Jeremy Loops (real name Jeremy Thomas Hewitt) has announced a new album entitled Heard You Got Love and has released the single “Better Together”, which sees Hewitt working together with beloved British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran as a co-writer. “Better Together” was a collaborative writing effort by Sheeran, Hewitt and regular Sheeran collaborators Johnny McDaid and Steve Mac, who helped write the smash hit “Shape of You”, which recently became the most streamed song on Spotify. Hewitt and Sheeran have a long-standing friendship, with their first meeting being at a private party in South Africa during Sheeran’s first ever stadium tour.
Talking of his partnership with Sheeran, according to a press release, Hewitt stated: “He said I was a better loop artist than he is…Very kind, but not true! But we are very similar artists, in many aspects of our jobs. We spent the night hanging out and talking shop, and he suggested we write together.”
The release of Jeremy Loops’ new single also comes alongside another piece of extremely exciting news; the announcement of Loops’ third album Heard You Got Love, which according to a recent press release is “an album of head-bopping anthems perfect for sunny days ahead.” The forthcoming album also includes a collaboration with legendary African choir Ladysmith Black Mambazo, who famously worked with Dolly Parton, Michael Jackson and Paul Simon. The result of their collaboration is a song entitled “This Town”, which was released last year.
Hewitt’s musical background is a completely self-taught one, as the rising songwriter started playing guitar back in university. Following his graduation, Hewitt spent two years working on superyachts and travelling, and during this time he would use a loop pedal to make up for the lack of other musicians to collaborate with. Following his return from his travels in 2010, Hewitt began to pursue a career in music, and released his debut self-titled E.P. in October of 2011.
In subsequent years, Loops performed live and grew his audience within South Africa and won the Best Live Act Award in 2014. His debut full-length album Trading Change was released in August of 2015, which reached Number 1 on iTunes in South Africa. Loops toured South Africa during 2014 in support of the then forthcoming album and toured the US three times in 2015.
