NME reports that former Oasis man Noel Gallagher has announced that he expects to have finished work on his third solo LP by June of next year.
Gallagher has been in the studio with producer David Holmes for a while, and had hoped to finish the follow-up to 2015’s Chasing Yesterday by the end of this year. Speaking to BBC Radio 6 Music Gallagher said “I think we’re into the home straight now. I’ve been given the deadline which is to have everything finished – mastered, artwork, videos, the lot – done by the time I go to Glastonbury in June.”Gallagher is notorious for enjoying Glastonbury every year, but at this stage has not been scheduled to perform at next year’s festival.
When discussing working with David Holmes on the new album, Gallagher was very open about their different styles, revealing that “The process is the complete opposite to the way that I’ve always worked. With this, you have no idea what you’ve got until it’s there, and the end results are great because they’re constantly evolving.” Due to Holmes’ apparent insistence that all writing be done in the studio.
Holmes himself has previously spoken about the album’s sound and style, suggesting that many listeners would be surprised by how “fun” the record would be. Holmes said “People are going to be surprised. I think people love Noel and they’re desperate for him to make a really big, bold, uptempo beast of a record – a lot of Noel’s music is quite mid-tempo. This one is quite fun.”
Holmes positive comments about working with Noel prompted an angry reaction from brother and former Oasis bandmate Liam Gallagher, who was quick to label Holmes a “yes man”, before taking to Twitter to further snipe at Noel.
