The Isle of Wight indie sensations Wet Leg have recently released a fresh new single titled “UR MUM”. The song was released alongside a comical new video set in “the land of leg”. The song also boasts a debut; singer Rhian Teasdale’s 11.02 second “longest and loudest scream”.
“UR MUM” has dropped as a precursor to their upcoming first album which is due to arrive Friday the 8th April 2022, has been named after the band itself and is building a considerable amount of hype. Check out the video of their latest offering down below:
The video was created by the mind of Lava La Rue and features a distinctly parochial story set in the band’s native land. Via a press release Lava La Rue stated; “The Ur Mum video was all about bringing the viewer into the Wet Leg world – sprinkling details throughout the visual that not only reference at least 4 songs off the album but also plenty of inside jokes within the band too. Artistically it shows where the aesthetic of American indie films like Napoleon Dynamite fit perfectly in the scape of rural British settings – this concept first came to me when the band took me to IOW for the first time – I saw the connection and it all clicked into place.”
The content of the song touches on a scathing message to a former boyfriend and the ways in which the slow pace of island life can affect a young mind. Discussing the inspiration of the song, Teasdale explained “I was pretty angry at the way things had gone in this particular dynamic. It’s just a diss song I wrote to make myself feel better. It worked.”
Wet Leg is available to pre-order in an exclusive clear vinyl pressing (as well as a 7” of two non-album track) which can be found at the band’s official online store. Cassettes, mech, CD’s, standard vinyl can also be snapped up direct from the source. Digital downloads of the album are available here.
