Sundara Karma have shared “All These Dreams”, the latest track from their upcoming fifth EP Oblivion!. The Reading band’s effervescent, guitar-driven new single draws from frontman Oscar Pollock’s emo past, with production coming from Clarence Clarity (Charli XCX, Rina Sawayama). The single continues to establish a new era for the band. An era that testifies to the band’s genre-melding sonic soundscape and fearless evolution, further exploring the heavier and more urgent sounds of their most recent offerings married with Oscar’s vivid lyricism to cement their vast potential as alt-pop icons. You can hear the new track below.
The EP is due for release on April 1 and is set to be a landmark in what is destined to be another massive year for the band. This new release will come ahead of a summer of big festival appearances that will surely certify their reputation as one of the most entertaining live bands in the UK.
“All These Dreams” follows on from the release of the EP’s title track earlier this year. The single was premiered as Jack Saunders’ ‘Power Play’ on BBC Radio 1 and was accompanied by an official music video directed by Prosper Unger-Hamilton (A.G. Cook, Alt-J) which you can watch below:
Pollock as quoted in NME said of the EP: “It’s fun to amalgamate different genres, often I love re-contextualising things like vocal styles etc. I think I also enjoy confusing people. For this EP I wanted to take pop rock to a maximalist and super saccharine place.
“Like with a lot of our previous music there’s a fair amount of pop hooks for people to hold onto and there are also moments for glam guitar stuff to poke through but I suppose my Emo past has also made a resurgence and I haven’t felt like suppressing those urges.”
Also speaking about the EP’s title track, Pollock added: “‘Oblivion!’ came together so quickly, I wrote the whole thing in about two days in the summer last year. I had been revisiting a lot of my favourite music from around 2003 and was feeling quite nostalgic at the time. It definitely plays into the rockier aspects of our ‘sound’ but ultimately I think it’s a wonderful pop song.”
Sundara Karma’s last album was 2019’s ‘Ulfilas’ Alphabet’ and though fans will no doubt be excited about the forthcoming EP they will be anxious to know when the next album is coming.
