It’s been a long time for Steven Wilson’s experimental rock band Porcupine Tree. Unlike other artists, they don’t have a global pandemic as the ready-made excuse for lack of material as of recent. The last signs of life from this group was over a decade ago, with their 2009 album The Incident and a tour in 2010.
However, being long dormant should never trick fans into writing off their favourite bands. They’re back into the full swing of things, with a new album and tour coming up on everyone’s radar soon enough. Aptly titled Closure/Continuation, it’s been in the works for the past decade, but should hopefully make up for the wait, coming out this June 24th via Music for Nations/Megaforce Records.
If you’ve felt a bit cheated over the last twelve years, don’t worry! They’ve already been busy releasing some new material. New single “Harridan“ was released last November and was described by Guitar World as “an effortless continuation to form“. And they’ve also just released another song entitled “Of the New Day“.
Wilson had this to say about their most recent track: “Of the New Day’ is a song of rebirth, emerging from darkness …. It’s what Porcupine Tree can sometimes do really well, come up with a basic idea that’s almost intellectual or mathematical, but carry it off in a way that sounds completely natural and accessible.“
As for the new tour, aside from already-announced gigs in the UK and Europe over October and November, they’ve recently announced a series of dates through America as well, starting off on September 10th in Toronto Ontario’s Meridian Hall.
We are happy to announce Porcupine Tree’s return to North and South America in September/October 2022 for a limited series of performances.
