LA-punk rock band The Regrettes have some rather exciting news, announcing that their latest album is soon to appear on April 8th, their first since 2019’s How Do You Love?. It will be the group’s third studio album. It’s called Further Joy and will be available digitally, on CD and vinyl as well (and there’s even a special pink vinyl available if you really fancy!). Pre-ordering can be done through this link.
Luckily, they haven’t come out with this news empty-handed. A new music video for their single “That’s What Makes Me Love You“ has been released, directed by Claire Marie Vogel and Olivia Eberstadt. Regrettes songwriter Lydia Night says of its inspiration that “I was in a dark anxious place and realized that I was becoming very critical of my partner. I got out of that place by realizing, ‘I love this person for exactly who they are and nothing needs to change about who they are.“
The whole album is set to be a confessional and honest response to the events of the last few years. According to their press release, it will explore “subjects such as anxiety and mental health, feeling lost in one’s own environment, and coming to terms with one’s sexuality“, with “hope, embracing and standing up for your inner child” being touched upon as well.
Knight said of its title “that phrase, ‘further joy,’ summarized what it meant to be on the hamster wheel of constantly chasing happiness, but in turn, that’s what makes you unhappy. I was stuck in a loop of wanting to be better, wanting to be good, and therefore I couldn’t be here. I couldn’t be present.“
Aside from this, they’re also going to be embarking on a tour around the US from March until May, and they’ll be seen at some American festivals including Coachella and Bonnaroo. However, if travelling all the way across the pond is a bit much for you, don’t despair. They’ll get to us at some point. They have planned appearances at the notorious 2000trees festival in July (you can read some recent news about this here) as well as a slot in Glasgow’s TRNSMT festival (also in July). If you want to get tickets for either of these, you can look here and here.
